Three proposes and eight companies candidates to the Lisbon new cruise Terminal

The three applications to the construction and operation of the new Cruise Terminal in Lisbon, located between SantaApolónia and Jardim do Tabaco, were opened by the jury on August 22.
The applications were presented by: 
Creuers del Port de Barcelona, SA Global Ports Holding (GPH)Mota-Engil, Ambiente e Serviços, SGPS, SASETH – Sociedade de Empreitadas e Trabalhos Hidráulicos, SA Somague Engenharia, SAGrupo Sousa, Investimentos SGPSPioneiro do Rio, Serviços Marítimos, Ldª.RCCL, Royal Caribbean Cruises LtdNext, it will be assessed the eligibility of applicants against the requirements of the contest. In the second stage, the companies fulfilling the requirements will be invited to submit their proposals. The contract adjudication process is expected to be held until the end of the year.
With this new Terminal, the Port of Lisbon Authority aims to grow in calls and cruise passengers, estimating that the current traffic of more than 500 000 passengers could double in the next ten years. The new facility will provide the port with a capacity to grow to 1.8 million passengers and will promote the growth of turnaround operations, which will result in a greater impact on tourism in the region, with more benefits for the economy.
The construction of the new Cruise Terminal - which represents a total investment of about 22 million euros - should start in early 2014 and is expected to be completed in 2015.
The project, designed by architect João Luís Carrilho da Graça, was unanimously chosen by a jury composed by members of the: Lisbon Port Authority; Lisbon Municipal Council; Order of Architects, Association of Landscape Architects, and an internationally renowned Catalan architect.
