Aberdeen Harbour has enjoyed a surge in cruise visitors over recent years, and enjoyed a record year in 2018, with the port welcoming its highest number of cruise passengers. And looking ahead to 2020, cruise activity in Aberdeen will be transformed with the opening of Aberdeen’s £350 million harbour extension.

Aberdeen South Harbour will be able to accommodate vessels of up to 300m in length, with a maximum beam of 45m and water depths of up to 15 metres. The new facility has been designed so cruise ships can berth alongside, and significant infrastructure upgrades in the region will allow visitors to quickly arrive at their destinations around the city and extensive countryside.

Aberdeen City and Shire is an increasingly popular tourist destination, thanks to its beautiful scenery, incredible heritage and its vibrant culture, not to mention the ever present dolphins!

John McGuigan, Port Operations Manager at Aberdeen Harbour, said: “The results from our 2018 cruise season, and the forward bookings for the 2019 and 2020 seasons reinforce Aberdeen as a growing cruise and tourism destination. With the South Harbour construction project making good progress, it is becoming clear to us that our cruise activity projections for the future will not only be realised but may be exceeded, and we look forward to welcoming the visitors to our wonderful region.”
