MSC MAGNIFICA debuts in Porto Cruise Terminal to board passengers

On March 25, the Porto Cruise Terminal welcomed the first turnaround cruise call. MSC Magnifica from MSC Cruises brought to Leixões nearly 3.000 passengers mostly Brazilians. More than 200 passengers have disembarked here and 250 other passengers all Portuguese have started at Leixões a new voyage towards Hamburg.

It was a historic moment for the Porto Cruise Terminal with great impact in the North of Portugal Region economy. A ceremony on board of Magnifica was held to celebrate this special day to the Porto Cruise Terminal and for the region, which was attended by the Mayor of Matosinhos Municipality Luísa Salgueiro, the MSC Group Vice President Bud Darr, MSC Portuguese General Manager Eduardo Cabrita and the Port Authority President of the Board Guilhermina Rêgo.

The Porto Cruise Terminal (Port of Leixões) is the main gateway by sea to Porto – the city of the Port Wine and the appropriate place to welcome all passengers from cruise liners. Equipped with comfortable facilities for tourists, Leixões features two cruise terminals. The Leixões Passenger Terminal is a wooden construction that resembles a ship’s hull, and is considered an important architectural and historical heritage. Since April 2011, it is in operation a new cruise quay 340m long and 300m length for berth (up to 320m upon request). Since then, the biggest and the most glamorous cruise ships from the worldwide cruise fleet are welcome here, boosting the cruise tourism in the North of Portugal region. The Porto Cruise Terminal it is in full operation since March 2015 and the main building has a capacity for 2.500 passengers in turnaround. Porto Cruise Terminal was planned to improve the whole cruise visitor experience!
